County Legislator Faces Cocaine Charge

Yonkers legislator Gordon Burrows faces misdemeanor charges after upstate police found a small amount of cocaine in his car

Westchester County Legislator Gordon A. Burrows (R-Yonkers) was arrested Feb. 5 in Queensbury, Warren County after police found a small amount of cocaine in his car, according to the Warren County Sheriff's Department.

Burrows, 52, and  Timothy J. Cacace, 50, also of Yonkers, were on their way to Killington, Vermont for a weekend ski trip. (According to public records, Cacace is the owner of Master Mechanix, Inc. auto body repair shop at 23 Central Park Ave.)

The two were spotted doing lines of cocaine in a parked car outside of a Mobil station, and police responded to the tip. When the responding officer approached the car, Burrows was seen wiping a white substance off the seat.

A police spokesman told the Glens Falls Post Star – which broke the story today shortly after 4 p.m. – that Burrows immediately identified himself as a Westchester County legislator and said "he could lose his job" when the officer asked if he had drugs in the car.

Tara Martin, the spokeswoman for the Board of Legislators said, "We don't have a comment right now. We don't have enough information."

Burrows is charged with seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a misdemeanor, and will be in court in Queensbury on March 1.

A County Legislator would have to be convicted of a felony to be removed from office.

He was elected to the Board of Legislators in 2005 after serving ten years on the Yonkers City Council, seven of them as majority leader. He also has a law firm in White Plains.

Initial Web searches revealed that Cacace provides guest commentary on the Internet radio show, AutoLab, and will be a featured speaker tomorrow, Feb. 20, at 8:05 a.m. (listen here).

He  also teaches automotive technology at Bronx Community College of the City University of New York.

Burrows could not immediately be reached for comment Friday night. He told the Glens Falls Post-Star that he would not comment until his court date. A phone number to his current home address was reported by the phone company to be "temporary disconnected."

Cacace was also unable to be reached last night.
