Enrico's: Not Just For The Challahdays

Enrico's in Hartsdale is bigger and better than ever.

You know how I feel about a bagel and lox. We had this discussion a few weeks ago. Unfortunately, if I knew what I know now, I would have included Enrico's of Hartsdale. Enrico's? The bakery? Yes, the bakery.  "Not Just Cake Anymore" is its new slogan and it couldn't be truer.

The bagel was a heavy duty poppy seed with a great crunch and the cream cheese was smooth and wonderful. The fresh lox was, well, amazing. But I'm not doing another bagel review. I just wanted to throw it out there.

Their challah is the best I've ever had in Westchester. The outside is thin with a strong sheen and the interior is moist and light without being too dense or doughy.  The assortment is also impressive. Raisin, chocolate chip, plain, sesame, poppy seed. The holidays, especially Rosh Hashanah, bring big business. "We made upwards of 600 yesterday," Michelle Floriano noted.

Enrico's opened up in Hartsdale 15 years ago when Michelle and her husband Joe Floriano got married. The Italian Kosher bakery originally opened 50 years ago in the Bronx. "When my father in-law passed, my husband took it over and started running the business. The store was only open 3 days a week and we extended it to 7. Then my husband and I started developing it further." Floriano said.

The store moved from a smaller location to a much larger setting 2 months ago and even expanded their menu. Hartsdale Cheesery, a local favorite was closing after the owner died. Michelle and Joe asked the owner's wife if she would be interested in joining Enrico's and after a week or so of thinking about it, she said yes. Now the store offers favorites like nova salmon, white fish, and an immense selection of cream cheeses; thus, adding a whole new dimension to the stores setting. The space is divided up, the pastries and baked goods are on the right side, keeping the familiarity of the old store, and the new selections are on the left.

There is outdoor seating available and the staff is always welcoming and friendly. Enrico's assortment of cakes, cupcakes, cookies, and danishes is massive.

Make sure to pre-order for all your Yom Kippur break-fast needs.
