New Scarsdale High School Principal Appointed

The following is an announcement from Scarsdale Superintendent of Schools Michael V. McGill.

Dear Members of the Scarsdale Schools Community:

I'm delighted to inform you that Kenneth Bonamo will be the next principal of   Ken is currently principal of the selective Townshend Harris High School in New York City, where, according to colleagues, parents and supervisors, he's championed an education for the new century, upheld high standards for learning and behavior, and restored a sense of leadership.

Scarsdale's search for a new principal began in December.  A screening committee of teachers, parents and administrators interviewed some 27 candidates out of a field of more than 75. After two initial rounds of interviews and preliminary reference checks, semi-finalists came to the district for day-long interviews that involved more than 70 students, parents and teachers. My recommendation to appoint Mr. Bonamo followed further reference checks, a visiting team journey to his school and a meeting with our Board of Education. There was a strong consensus that he is the right person to take the school forward into the 2000's.

I am grateful to all who committed their substantial time and talent to this search process. I also want to acknowledge the superb contributions of co-principals Fred Goldberg and Kelley Hamm, who've so ably guided the school through this transition year, as well as the ongoing dedication of our accomplished faculty and the perseverance of our excellent students and their parents.

I'll share more information about Ken's appointment in the near future. However, I wanted you to know this very positive news as soon as I could.  He will bring energy, enthusiasm, a collaborative style and thoughtful intelligence to his work in Scarsdale.  He is eager to take on his new responsibilities, and I'm fully confident that he'll provide the High School with vision and leadership that will be consistent with the best Scarsdale tradition.
