Voters in Edgemont, Scarsdale Approve School Budgets

The Scarsdale and Edgemont School Districts held elections today.

Despite the rain and fog, a small number of Edgemont and Scarsdale residents hit the polls to vote today. Both districts held elections for their school districts' 2012-2013 budgets and Board of Education members In Scarsdale, district voters made their choices in the Middle School Gym. The $141,790,579 budget went before the Scarsdale School District voters today and was approved with a vote of 573 in favor and 152 opposed. Registered Scarsdale voters can cast ballots at the polls in the Scarsdale Middle School Gym from 7:00 a.m. - 9:00 p.m. Registered Edgemont voters can head to the polls from 6:00 a.m. - 9:00 p.m. in the old gym at Edgemont Junior/Senior High School. Scarsdale and Edgemont School Districts Holding Elections Tuesday

The two districts are holding elections Tuesday, May 15, for the school budgets and board of education members.

The Edgemont and Scarsdale School Districts are both holding elections tomorrow. Folks in both districts are voting on 2012-2013 budgets and Board of Education members. The Scarsdale Board of Education approved the 2012-2013 budget resolution in April. The $141,790,579 budget will go before the Scarsdale School District voters tomorrow, (Tuesday, May 15.) The Scarsdale BOE has put forth a "fiscally sound budget," BOE President Jill Spieler said at a previous meeting. "We've been explicit in saying that the tax cap" was not the sole, determining factor in deciding this year's budget proposal, she noted. Signs Point to Low Turn Out for GOP Presidential Primary Today

Drop out of Rick Santorum, wide lead for Romney in polls, among signs

New York's Republican presidential primary is today, but don't expect the excitement seen from earlier nomination contests. With former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum having dropped out earlier this month, former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney is now being referred to as the "presumptive front runner" in published media reports. Even in the closing weeks of Santorum's candidacy, polls for New York (including Quinnipiac and Siena) showed Romeny with large double-digit leads. Santorum is still listed on the ballot, according to records from the state's board of elections. Vice President Biden to Make Stop in Scarsdale Tonight

The vice president will be traveling to Scarsdale today.

Scarsdale is getting ready for a visit from Vice President Joseph Biden this evening. The vice president will be traveling to Scarsdale tonight after a campaign stop in Exeter, New Hampshire today at noon. "In the afternoon, the Vice President will travel to Scarsdale, New York, to attend a campaign event at 6:15 p.m.," the Office of the Vice President said in a statement. "The Vice President will return to Wilmington, Delaware, in the evening." The Office of the Vice President did not confirm any details of the Scarsdale trip. However, the WPCNR Main Street Journal is reporting that Biden "is expected to arrive by government jet at Westchester County Airport sometime after 5:30 p.m., and then be whisked by motorcade to a home in Scarsdale…

Republican Joe Carvin launched his Congressional campaign against US Representative Nita Lowey today saying after 25 years, it is time for new ideas.

Republican Joe Carvin launched the start of his campaign for the 17th District Congressional seat of US Representative Nita Lowey (D) on the steps of Rye Town Hall, where he currently serves as Town Supervisor. Carvin said that whle he respected the 25 years of public service incumbent Nita Lowey had given to her office, it was time for new ideas.  Carvin was accompanied by family members including wife Rozlyn and their two daughters. Recapping his professional experience in finance, Carvin said that his run for Congress was motivated by his assessment federal spending and debt are currently out of control and out of line with sound business principles. Rye Town Supervisor Carvin Set To Announce Bid For Congress Against Lowey

Port Chester resident to run against incumbent in re-shaped district.

Rye Town Supervisor and businessman Joe Carvin is set this morning to announce that he's going to run for Congress against incumbent U.S. Rep. Nita Lowey, D-Harrison. Carvin, who last week got the backing of Larchmont Republican Mark Rosen, who intended to run against Lowey but has found himself now in the district of U.S. Rep. Eliot Engel, D-Bronx, as a result of the judicially-ordered Congressional redistricting for the 2012 election. Rosen decided not to move to get back into Lowey's district, and he will not be challenging Engel. U.S. Rep. Engel Announces Re-Election Bid

Engel is running to represent District 16, which encompassed the northern Bronx and lower Westchester County communities such as Scarsdale, Rivertowns, Eastchester, Rye, New Rochelle, Pelham and Mamaroneck.

U.S. Rep. Eliot Engel, D-Bronx, announced Thursday that he is running for re-election to his office in the newly configured Congressional District covering southern Westchester and the north Bronx. “I am very enthused about the honor of representing the new 16th District of New York,” Engel said in a statement. “I have always had the honor and privilege of representing people from the Bronx and Westchester communities while in Congress. He's endorsing Rye Town Supervisor to run against U.S. Rep. Nita Lowey.

Larchmont Republican Mark Rosen has ended his 2012 bid for Congress and this morning endorsed Rye Town Supervisor Joe Carvin to challenge U.S. Rep. Nita Lowey, D-Westchester/Rockland. Rosen said the judicially-imposed reallignment of Congressional Districts in New York has taken him out of Lowey's district for the 2012 race, and put him in the district of U.S. Rep. Eliot Engel, D-Bronx/Westchester. Rosen, 50, said he was encouraged by some supporters to move so he could remain in Lowey's district and challenge her in November. However, Rosen said he felt such a move would be too disruptive to his family and he rejected the idea. Incumbents Re-Elected in Scarsdale Election

The village elected three trustees and one justice.

Familiar faces are returning to their elected positions in the Village of Scarsdale. Three incumbents were re-elected in Tuesday's election by a total of 468 voters. John H. Galloway III was elected to the position of Scarsdale Village Justice with a toal of 421 votes. The incumbent will serve another four years as justice. For the Village Board of Trustees, four candidates ran for three open spots. Katherine Eisenman, Scarsdale Citizens' Non-Partisan Party, was elected with 351 votes; David S. Lee, Scarsdale Citizens' Non-Partisan Party, was elected with 384 votes; and Jonathan I. Mark, Scarsdale Citizens' Non-Partisan Party, was elected with 390 votes.
