Sixteen-Percent of Scarsdale Con Ed Customers Remain Without Power

From the Village of Scarsdale:

As of this morning, there are 966 or 16% of Con Ed customers in Scarsdale without power and Con Ed has reported that full Village-wide restoration will occur by 11:00 PM on Sunday, November 11th. Yesterday, 710 Con Edison customers had their power restored. Con Ed reports that they anticipate an additional 650 customers to be restored today. A total of 16 Con Ed restoration crews are currently working in Scarsdale. For those residents that currently have power, your power may be temporary disconnected while Con Edison works to repair and restore power to a larger service area. The service will be restored once their work is complete at that location.

The State of Emergency has been rescinded as all Village roads have been opened and the emergency conditions have been significantly remedied. The Emergency Operations Center will also close at 3 PM today. Residents should continue to call 722-1150 and Village Department of Public Works staff will assist.

A Multi-Purpose Hurricane Sandy Recovery Center has been opened at the Westchester County Center located at 198 Central Ave, White Plains. The center will be open from 8 AM to 8 PM, seven days a week until further notice. Parking fees at the County Center have been waived. The Center will be staffed with representatives from Con Edison, FEMA, Small Business Administration, a variety of social services agencies and the Department of Health. Discussing your electrical power restoration status directly with Con Ed representatives at the County Center is the best way to obtain current and accurate information.

FEMA strongly advises that people register in advance of visiting the center. Residents can register by calling 1-800-621-3362 or at www.disasterassistance.gov. If you have a speech or hearing disability the number is 1-800-462-7585.

The Scarsdale Public Library will continue to have extended hours today, November 9th, from 9 AM to 9 PM. The Library will return to normal hours this weekend which are 9 AM – 5 PM on Saturday, 1 PM to 5 PM on Sunday and next week from 9 AM to 9 PM Monday – Wednesday. Please check the Library’s website at scarsdalelibrary.org for more information.

The Uniformed Firefighters Association (UFFA) is working with the Scarsdale Community Baptist Church in a collaborative effort to conduct a donation drive for victims of Hurricane Sandy. Please bring donations of food and clothing to Village Hall on Saturday, November 10th from 10AM – 2 PM

The Village of Scarsdale and the Hebrew Home at Riverdale have partnered to provide senior citizens affected by Hurricane Sandy with temporary shelter at the Hebrew Home at Riverdale. Private rooms with full baths in their assisted living facility are available at no cost. The Hebrew Home at Riverdale is also providing hot meals for those in need. Limited transportation to the facility may also be available. For more information contact Deborah Messina at the Hebrew Home at Riverdale at 800-567-3646.

Cablevision and Verizon report that restoration of their cable and phone services is dependent of Con Edison restoring power and replacing damaged utility poles. For residents concerned about their Cablevision service please call 914-777-9000; for Verizon call 1-800-Verizon (1-800-837-4966).

If you are concerned about the water pipes in your home freezing due to the lack of heat, please be aware that pipes do not normally freeze unless temperatures are below 32 degrees for at least 48 hours. Temperatures are expected to be above the freezing mark, so this should not be an issue.

Thank you for your continued patience and cooperation during this difficult period.

If this is happening in a community like Scarsdale, then as a taxpayer I am irritated. Where are allRead More the taxes going if teachers are paying for their own classroom supplies? There has to be some degree of accountability regarding our tax dollars. We are the highest-taxed county in the nation and we can't afford notebooks and post-it notes? As a community member, I am not going to "lend a hand." I already do that with my tax dollars.
