MJ TERRITO TRIO CELEBRATES INTERNATIONAL JAZZ DAY IN TUCKAHOE

On Wednesday April 30, 2013, the swinging sounds of jazz will be heard worldwide as musicians, schools, broadcasters, historians, and jazz enthusiasts all over the globe celebrate and learn about jazz. Locally, vocalist MJ Territo and her trio will bring the international party once again to An American Bistro in Tuckahoe.

International Jazz Day is designated by UNESCO to highlight the important role jazz plays in uniting people of all cultures, ages, and backgrounds. A daylong series of concerts, seminars, jam sessions, master classes, photo exhibitions, film screenings, and more will explore the past, present, and future of jazz as an international language that promotes peace, diversity, and freedom of expression. This year’s global all-star concert will be broadcast from Osaka, Japan and can be viewed at http://jazzday.com/

In Tuckahoe, from 7 to 9:30 pm, the MJ Territo Trio will play a mix of jazz standards and original compositions, including selections from jazz greats such as Peggy Lee, Bill Evans, and Horace Silver. “When students ask me what jazz is, I often start by saying that it is America’s classic music,” says Territo, who is also an educator. “I can’t think of a better way to celebrate everything I love about jazz than by being a part of this worldwide celebration. It’s also great to be pairing this classic American music with An American Bistro’s classic American cuisine.”
