5 Things: Salty Snacks, Snow, and Viral Video

March 23 is National Chip and Dip Day.

1. This one’s for you, salty snack lovers—March 23 is National Chip and Dip Day. The origin of this national holiday is uncertain. Holiday Insights reveals there is no Congressional record or presidential proclamation regarding National Chip and Dip Day, and some conspiracy theorists believe the snack industry may have created the holiday to increase profits. As if. Why are these fringe-dwelling nutjobs always trying to ruin everything for the rest of us?

An important note here: Do not confuse National Chip and Dip Day with National Potato Chip Day, which is March 14. Today is all about inclusion—the corn chip, the tortilla chip, even the pretzel are celebrated, as are the myriad dips out there, including salsa, hummus, and that weird artichoke stuff Aunt Gladys brings to every family gathering. Everyone is welcome at this party. Take that, haters.

2. March is also National Nutrition Month. I’m sure the irony is lost on no one (refer to item 1), so after you’ve licked the salt and grease off your fingers, you could start looking into healthier food options. (You are feeling a little bloated after the chip and dip binge, no?) Start by checking out this Patch article, “?” It’s definitely worth a read.

3. Building on the chip and dip theme, the Scarsdale Post Office is inviting customers to “” to use the Automated Postal Center, which provides quick, easy access to many postal services 24-7. The post office debuts the APC today with a ribbon-cutting event and demonstrations from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

4. Guess what else is happening today? Snow, if the weather forecasters are correct. The National Weather Service says one to four inches of snow could fall in the region, starting Wednesday afternoon and lasting through the night and into Thursday morning. To make yourself feel a little better, take a look at this beautiful photo gallery, “,” from Patch’s White Plains editor.

5. Over in Dobbs Ferry, people are talking about a . Zachary Freiman, a 13-year-old student at Solomon Schecter School in Hartsdale, collaborated with his dad (a music composer and producer) on a video to be shown at his bar mitzvah. They posted the video on YouTube, but had no idea the kind of response it would get—a lot of it positive, but some of it not so nice. Zach is taking it like a man, shrugging off any negative feedback. I’ll say it again: take that, haters.
