5 Things You Need to Know Today: December Day Camps, 'A Christmas Story' Characters Arrive in Scarsdale

Silver-screen bullies, basketball camps and record-breaking real estate sales.

1. As of 3 p.m. today, school is out for the holiday season. If your child's excess energy is a danger to your delicate holiday decorations, sign them up for one of the Recreation Department's December Vacation Break programs. There are still openings for a 3-day basketball camp, a "Mad Science" mini-camp, a jewelry making workshop and more. Check out the Department's website for more information and program age limits. Registration deadline is Dec. 26. 
2. Scarsdale's Committee for Historic Preservation made headlines in 2011 after several notable homes, including the Duck Pond Road mansion and the , faced demolition last spring. Now, the Committee's seeking a village resident interested in filling a current opening. The application form is available for completion online
3. Those with fond childhood memories of the classic movie "A Christmas Story" will get a heady dose of nostalgia at tomorrow. "Flick" and "Farkas," played by the now-adult Scott Schwartz and Zack Ward, will be stopping by the sports memorabilia haven tomorrow from 3-7 p.m. for an in-store signing -- giving you just enough time to show your children the movie tonight before taking them to see the silver-screen bullies in person.
