EATING WELL WHILE HELPING OTHERS

Everyone is invited to the Scarsdale Friends Meetinghouse, Saturday evening, October 18 beginning at 6:30 p.m.

The public is invited to a 3-course gourmet buffet dinner at the Scarsdale Friends Meetinghouse on Popham Road, Saturday evening, November 5 beginning at 6:15 p.m.   The event will give those attending not only the opportunity to enjoy an excellent meal, but their participation will help men and women at four homeless shelters in our area.                         Each year Scarsdale Quakers work to raise money to purchase warm “necessities” (socks, underwear, wool hats, flannel nightgowns, etc.) for about 135 residents of Open Arms, Samaritan House, Project Trust and Fessenden House.               The annual dinner, now in its third year, raised enough to also purchase warm slippers and fleece robes for the women at Samaritan House in White Plains.             The “Friendly Fare” at this year’s dinner will include an array of creative salads and breads;  American and international main courses and side dishes, as well as  a sumptuous variety of mouthwatering pastries and desserts.  Vegetarian and Kosher dishes are included within all of the three courses.   Some of the dishes have been generously donated by area restaurants, but most are homemade specialties from local gourmet cooks.   This year, there will be a very special musical guest who will lead one of two songs at the end of the dinner.

Tickets are $20 ($10 for children) and can be reserved by phone or email to juandempsey@yahoo.com or 914/722-6788.   Contributions of warm new socks for men or women are also welcomed!  Scarsdale Friends Meetinghouse is at 133 Popham Road, just west of Rte. 22 in front of Village Hall.    For additional information about the holiday shelter project or for a ride to the dinner, please contact sweisfeld@juno.com or call 914/779-8354.
