Five Things You Need to Know in Scarsdale: It's All About Teens This Tuesday

Scarsdale teenagers, take note: today, you can receive a $25 haircut, participate in spin classes, craft fashion projects for charity and more.

1. Show off your fabulous, newly-styled locks and receive a huge discout at Scarsdale's . Mark Young is searching for for stylist training, and participants will receive a new look for only $25 (a huge discount from the salon's usual $110 price point). And don't worry, you don't need a freshly-shorn faux-hawk or a perky pixie cut to be considered -- trims, subtle layers and bangs are also acceptable alternatives. Call (914) 472-1800 and ask for Mark or email markyoung@thesalons.com to schedule your appointment. This promotion is for training purposes, so make sure you're OK with being photographed and/or videoed. 

2. The JCC of Mid-Westchester is offering today from 4-4:45 p.m. Single classes cost $20, and bulk registration for a series of classes running through Feb. 28 is $144 (annual registration fee may be applicable). Participants are asked to wear exercise clothing and bring a watter bottle. More information is available on the JCC's website.  

3. The Scarsdale Teen Center is to raise awareness and jean donations for homeless teens until Feb. 12. Get involved by swinging by Havana Jeans, Beginnings Boutique or in Dobbs Ferry. There, you can create an outfit featuring your favorite jean fit and take a picture of your ensemble for the chance to win a prize. Other ways to engage in the contest include donating old or new denim, which you'll be thanked for by receiving a discount on your next Aeropostale pants purchase. 4. If you've been practicing your pageant walk since watching last weekend's televised Miss America and Miss New York pageants, you may soon get the chance to relive your runway fantasies in real life --  is open! Applications aren't due until July 31, but it's never too early to start preparing for the competition, which has included an added feature this year: the 2012 Miss Hudson Valley and Miss Hudson Valley Teen titles will be awarded to two women from the region during a joint competition on Sept. 4 in White Plains. All finalists will be eligible to compete for the Miss New York and Miss New York Teen USA 2012 competitions. Last year, Scarsdale resident Alexandra Croce . Who will represent the Village this year? 5. The League of Women Voters of Scarsdale is seeking high school applicants to participate in the 12th annual Students Inside Albany Conference, which will take place from March 25-28. One chosen student will have all expenses paid and travel to Albany to learn about New York State government and policymaking with youths across the state. Other activities will include touring the Capitol and spending an afternoon shadowing legislators.
