Five Things You Need to Know This Weekend: Hockey Clinics, Easter Celebrations and April Showers

It's Easter weekend! Here's a heads-up on what's going on in Scarsdale over the next few days.

  1. Happy Easter weekend! Better hold those egg hunts indoors, because lots of April showers are going to occur between today and Monday morning. Today, skies will be clear, albeit chilly, with highs hovering around 49 degrees. Temperatures are slated to climb to 56 on Saturday and 64 on Sunday – but that doesn’t mean you should forgo a warm sweater and some galoshes, as there’s a 90 percent chance of precipitation on Saturday and a 30 chance of precipitation on Sunday.
  2. Even though it’s no longer icy outdoors, Scarsdale’s Youth Hockey team continues to recruit players to hit the ice – and the puck – indoors. This Saturday, coaches will lead new player introduction sessions at Playland Studio Rink from 7:30-8:30 a.m. These sessions are free of charge, but equipment is required, so make sure that your budding Wayne Gretzky is outfitted with shin guards and a helmet. For additional protective gear, visit Pecks in White Plains or the Skate Shop at Westchester Skating Academy. Email syha.info@gmail.com for more information and visit the team's website to register.
  3.  Sure, we paint and decorate Easter eggs, but how much do we know about the creatures that lay them? Discover more about oviparous (that means “egg-laying,” for the non-scientific set) animals at the Weinburg Nature Center’s Trailside Nature Museum, where staff will discuss various egg-types and the flying, slithering and crawling critters that produce them. Swing by the Nature Center on Saturday, April 23 at 2 p.m. to participate in the program. And don’t worry – although Cadbury Eggs will not be dissected via your teeth and examined with your taste buds during this presentation, your sweet tooth will be satisfied when you make your own edible nest to take home!
  4. Participate in Scarsdale’s most egg-stravagant Easter celebration by attending the at Scarsdale Middle School this Saturday. Between 10-11:30 a.m., children will embark upon egg hunts, participate in egg-decorating contests and meet the town’s top celebrity – the Easter Bunny! Don’t forget to bring a basket to collect eggs and candy! Call (914) 722-1160 if you have any questions.
  5. Rise, shine and celebrate! Greenville Community Church is kicking off their Easter Sunday festivities on the early side with a 6:30 a.m. Easter Sunrise sermon in the church’s garden and a communal breakfast following the service. And if you’re too busy playing Easter Bunny to make it to church at the literal crack of dawn, another service will follow at 11 a.m. All Village members are welcome to attend. For more information, visit the church’s website or call (914) 723-1266.
