Five Things You Need to Know Today: Blood Drives, Paper Shredding Services and Teen Center Looking for Adult Board Members

Today in Scarsdale, give blood, start cleaning out your closets for old documents to shred and apply to serve on the Scarsdale Teen Center's Adult Board.

  1. The Scarsdale Teen Center is looking for volunteers to serve on their Adult Board for the 2011-2012 school year. All recent high school graduates and Village residents who are 18 years and older are welcome to apply. Send a letter of interest to Kendra Porter, the Teen Center’s executive director, at kporter@scarsdaleteencenter.com or call (914) 722-8458 for additional inquiries.
  2. Pounds of paper – old files, school supplies or ledger books – taking up valuable basement, closet and storage space? Bring up to four boxes to the Scarsdale Recycling Center on Saturday, March 5. The Westchester County Mobile Shredder will be present to rid you of all your excess documents, providing that you remove all binders, clips, plastic or other hard coverings. Also, remember to remove out the pages from hardcover books and throw the hard covers into your regular household trash.
  3. This past winter, severe snow storms have prevented citizens from giving blood, causing the lowest blood supply in a decade. Give the gift of life by donating blood today at the Red Cross Blood Drive in Rye. The Drive will be held at The Osborn on 101 Theall Road, and it will last from 1 - 6 p.m. Contact Maria Boccardi at (914) 925-8309 for more information.
  4. The Garth Road Inn has new owners! Irish transplants Sharon and Miles Crowley have recently revamped the Inn, but rest assured, it still retains its beloved Irish pub feel. Read more about the Crowleys’ new take on an old favorite establishment later this evening when Scarsdale Patch runs a preview of the Garth Inn’s facelift – special Irish coffee recipes included!
  5. The Jacob Burns Center in Pleasantville is showing the film “An American in Paris” tomorrow at 1 p.m. $1 admission will give your child a pass to see the beloved Oscar-winning musical – the perfect way to pass the time indoors during a cold winter break.
