Five Things You Need to Know Today: Borders Closing, Nature Walks and a Screening of 'The Social Network'

What are the five things you need to know about today in Scarsdale?

1. Today’s weather is supposed to reach highs of 53, with winds between 3 to 6 miles per hour. If it’s this warm on Thursday, can you imagine what it’ll be like this weekend? Check out our handy guide to learn more about the nature walks offered at the Teatown Lake Reservation in Ossning. Weather this nice shouldn’t be put to waste.

2. Tonight, high school students will get the chance to peel themselves away from their computer desks, log off Facebook and… watch a movie about Facebook. The Charity Water Club will be screening “The Social Network” at the Scarsdale High School’s Little Theater at 5 p.m. Admission fee is $5. Proceeds will go towards the club’s efforts to raise money for well construction in developing nations.

3. Have a budding Judy Bloom or a developing Dostoevsky in your household? Today is the deadline to register them for the 16th Annual Young Writers’ Workshop. Sign up by visiting www.youngwritersworkshop.eventbrite.com.

4. Tomorrow, Scarsdale schools close for the weekend... and for winter recess! Hard to remember that it's still winter when it’s close to the weekend and the weather is warm and sunny.

5. The Scarsdale/Eastchester Borders will soon be shut down. Read more about the store’s closing in an article coming later this afternoon. So much for the Kindle not taking over the world, huh?
