Five Things You Need to Know Today: Free Childcare at Westchester Reform Temple, Classic Cinema at the Pelham Picture House and Teen Center to Host Six Flags Field Trip

The week's halfway over, so treat yourself to a child-free morning, a teen-free afternoon and some classic cinema to boot.

1. School may be out for the summer, but it's still in session at the Pelham Picture House, which will feature a lecture by Weselyan film professor Scott Higgins examining the art and history of classical Hollywood cinema tonight from 6-9 p.m. Impress the guests at your next dinner party with your newfound knowledge of film noir as a style and developments and lighting and composition as you deconstruct golden greats such as "Citizen Kane," "Meet me in St. Louis," "Double Indemnity," "My Darling Clementine" and "The Best Years Of Our Lives." Classes cost $30. Visit the Picture House’s website, call (914) 738-3161 or email events@thepicturehouse.org to learn more.

2. Bagels and babies and baby-sitters, oh my! Westchester Reform Temple Early Childhood Center (WRT ECC) will host a free Bagels & Babies program this morning to give moms, dads and caregivers a safe space for their tots to play with peers… and a much-needed break, too. This drop-in program will take place today from 9:30-10:30 a.m., as well as on July 20 and 27. Bagels & Babies is free and open to the public. Registration is not required. All sessions take place at Westchester Reform Temple Early Childhood Center’s Library at 255 Mamaroneck Road, Scarsdale. For more information call the Early Childhood Center office at (914) 723-7727, visit www.wrtemple.org or email questions to Anna Stampfli at anna@joshstampfli.com.

3. The first session of camp has ended, your teen’s getting antsy and you’re getting equally antsy at the sight of him or her watching endless hours of CSI: Miami reruns on your sofa. The Scarsdale Teen Center’s upcoming field trip, however, will get your couch potato out of the living room and into a line for the fastest, fiercest roller coasters at Six Flags. Interested parties should register by July 22 for the July 29th field trip. The trip costs $50, and fees include transportation, snacks on the bus and admission. The van will leave from the Scarsdale Teen Center at 9 a.m. and return at 9 p.m. Fill out and mail or hand-deliver a Trip Registration Form with full payment. For more info, email Info@ScarsdaleTeenCenter.com.

4. Before you hear the pounding of hammers and the droning of drills emanating from your neighbor’s half-constructed sunroom, take it into consideration that the Board of Appeals has already reviewed the blueprints, discussed the plans with the site’s owners and determined how the new room’s appearance will fit the surrounding neighborhood’s architectural aesthetic. Tonight, witness the Board in action when they meet in Village Hall at 8 p.m. to discuss pool permits and applications for home additions.

5. Georgia O’Keefe viewed nature with her own perspective, and so do the 27 participating members of the Color Camera Club of Westchester. Check out their work at ArtsWestchester’s “” exhibit from 12-5 p.m. today. Enjoy photography ranging from natural landscape scenes to flower portraits. For more information, visit Arts Westchester's website or call (914) 428-4220. Admission is free.
