Five Things You Need to Know Today: Golf Camps, Poetry Fundraisers and a Scarsdale Forum Meeting

Here are five things you need to know this Thursday morning.

  1. Here’s some bad news for you (and good news for the newly-blossoming trees and flowers): Scarsdale’s going to experience heavy rainfall and thunderstorms today, with highs near 69 and rainfall amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch.
  2.  Tonight’s Scarsdale Forum meeting will take place at 8 p.m. in the Scott Room of the Scarsdale Library. The Citizens and School Board Nominating Committees will be honored at a welcome reception at 7:30 p.m. before the evening’s agenda segues into a program entitled “Tax Caps – the Good, the Bad and the Ugly,” featuring State Aseemblywoman Amy Paulin, Mayor Miriam Flisser, School Board President Jill Spieler and former Lieutenant Governor Alfred B. DelBello. For more information, visit the Forum’s website, email office@scarsdaleforum.com or call (914) 723-2829.
  3.  If you’ve ever known anyone who’s suffered abuse from a loved one or spouse, be assured that local action is being taken by the Westchester Council Domestic Violence Council. The Council, which offers support, advocacy and increased awareness for abused women, will meet today at Westchester Supreme & County Court at 12:30 p.m. The meeting is open to the public, allowing you to take a stand against domestic violence and educate yourself about the adversities that face local Westchester women. Visit the Council’s website or the Westchester County government website for more information.
  4.  Now that the grass is green, it’s time to pick up your golf club and hit the courses for some much-needed sunshine… and friendly competition, of course. This summer, enroll your budding golfer into the Total Golf Adventures (TGA) of Westchester Premier Junior Golf, which offers both swing fundamentals to new players and advanced techniques for the more sophisticated swinger. Find out more information about the Pre-Camp Program (June) or Summer Camp (August) before signing your child up for three months of fun that will hopefully launch a lifelong passion.
  5. There’s only a few days left of National Poetry Month, so make sure it goes out with a bang by attending the fundraiser concert at Manhattanville College performed by The Transactions, MasterCard’s employee band that performs benefit concerts for select causes. A portion of the proceeds will go towards the Inkwell Journal’s first High School Poetry Scholarship, which will be offered to high school students throughout the tri-state area. Show up at 2900 Purchase Street from 6-9 p.m. to support the arts and listen to some great music
