Five Things You Need to Know Today: Page-Turners, Potholes and Plot Twists

The Scarsdale Seniors Book Club meets this afternoon,"Fringe" debuted on Fox with a fictional plane crash in Scarsdale over a year ago and the Village of Scarsdale requests for residents to report pothole problems.

1)  It’s Tuesday, meaning the rest of the week is a downhill cruise towards the two best days of all – the weekend. One thing, however, is going up, and that’s the temperature. Today’s high is only supposed to hover around 30, but tomorrow sees a spike in temperature at 41 degrees, and Thursday’s sunny climate will climb up to 52! Hmm. I never thought I’d say this, but… maybe the groundhog was right.

2)   At 1 p.m., Scarsdale Seniors Book cub will convene for its second annual meeting to discuss “Olive Kitteridge” by Elizabeth Strout. Swing by the Scarsdale Library to pick up a reserved copy, and stop on by the Girl Scout House on 31 Wayside Lane to discuss Strout’s best-selling novel with fellow bibliophiles.

3)  The Harlem Globetrotters have, well, globe-trotted all over the world— and now they’re coming to a court near you! Tonight, the team will kick off its 2011 World Tour by hitting the paint at the Westchester County County Center in White Plains. The game starts at 7 p.m., and tickets range from $23.50 - $118.50. Call (914) 995-4050 for more details or to book tickets.

4)  A little over a year ago, the T.V. show “Fringe” premiered on Fox with an episode plot that served less as a strategically dramatic twist than it did as a nod to writer Dan Robins’s hometown. Although the reference to your beloved village may be a little eerie, it’s still pretty cool to see Scarsdale referenced in contemporary popular culture, no?

5)  The Village of Scarsdale has requested that you report pesky potholes by contacting the Department of Public Works at (914) 722-1150, or by e-mailing staff at publicworks@scarsdale.com
