Five Things You Need to Know Today: School Budget Elections, Free Fitness Boot Camps and Roseanne Cash to Speak in Rye

It's a rainy day in Scarsdale, but that doesn't mean that life isn't as busy as ever!

1. Today, the Scarsdale Union Free School District will vote on the proposed budget for 2011-12. Check out our handy telling you where to go and what to know – and get out there and cast your ballot!

2. Country music star and author Roseanne Cash will visit the Rye Free Reading Room tonight at 7 p.m. for a Q&A with CBS correspondent Anthony Mason. Copies of Cash's book “Composed” will be available for purchase and signing. For more information, call (914) 231-3161, visit www.ryelibrary.org or check out Rye Patch’s of the event.

3. If you’re a female job seeker, look no further than Westchester Jewish Community Services for free, non-sectarian workshops on how to mine productivity and purpose out of your everyday life. Today’s session, entitled “Ask the Recruiter,” runs from 9:30-11 a.m. at the Rosenthal Jewish Community Center of Northern Westchester. Register for today’s seminar or future workshop opportunities by contacting WHW Project Director Lenore Rosenbaum at (914) 761-0600, X308.

4. Glass houses may not be safe from stones, but they do make for stunning architecture… if we’re talking about Philip Johnson’s famed minimalist New Canaan residence, of course. Today, the Scarsdale Adult School will be hosting the tour and lecture series “Don’t Throw Stones at Glass Houses: A Survey of Contemporary Residential Architecture and Philip Johnson Glass House Tour. Unfortunately, today’s tour led by architect Brent Stringfellow – featuring a guided walk through the Glass House, the Painting Gallery, Sculpture Gallery and a structure called Da Monsta— is sold out. Luckily for you, however, another tour will be offered on Friday, June 3 at 12 p.m. For more information, visit the Scarsdale Adult School’s website or call (914) 723-2325.

5. Just in time for bathing suit season comes National Fitness Month – and personal trainer Jeannine Palermo from FitnessLinkLLC is offering a free “Fitness Challenge” for Scarsdale’s female gym-goers. Join Palmero’s 6 a.m. boot camp to combat stress, fatigue and flab. All you’ll have to do is set your alarm an hour early… and prepare to get into fighting shape. For more information, contact Palmero at (914) 874-3427.
