Five Things You Need to Know Today: Post-Thanksgiving Fun

A roundup of activities around town for Friday, Nov. 25.

1. Help David Kemp, son of Scarsdale residents Gil and Barbara Kemp, and his troops in Afghanistan by donating items for Afghani children. Money is not required -- just small items such as candy, books, socks, dental floss and tooth brushes. The will collect these items today and Saturday from 3-11 p.m. at 862 Scarsdale Ave., Scarsdale. 2. Cheerleading classes are being conducted from 6:30-8:30 p.m. in the Scarsdale High School wrestling room. These classes are set aside for grades 3-5 and are offered for Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. 

3. The History Channel is sponsoring a National Essay Competition focused on the Constitution for students. Essays are focused on the topic of being an American and what it means to be an American. The essays must be received by 11:59 p.m. PST on Dec. 15. This contest promises $1000 for First Place; $500 for Second Place; $250 for Third Place.

4. Want to keep the kids busy during Thanksgiving vacation? A is taking place at Greenville Community Reform Church. Kids ages 2.5 – 5 are can play soccer and other activities from 9:30 a.m. – 12 p.m. during the weekend of Nov. 25 – 27. The event costs $150.

5. The is presenting an exhibit of landscape painters from 2-4 p.m. Landscape Perspectives is a free event showcasing works by Elaine Finsilver, Joan Poarch, Janine Robertson, Catherine Caulfield Russell, Melinda Green Tepler and Victoria Walsh.
