Five Things You Need to Know Today: Sports Swaps, Indian Dance Performances and County Council Meetings

Today, travel to India without leaving Westchester County, let your voice be heard at a Westchester County Council Meeting and search your basement and garage for goods to donate to this weekend's Sports Swap.

1. You don’t need to buy a plane ticket (or read E.M. Forster) to travel to India. This afternoon, your only passport to the Far East is your car. Drive to Sarah Lawrence College and stop by Reisinger Concert Hall to watch an Indian drumming and dance performance. The performance starts at 1:30 p.m., so make sure to eat a large lunch of curry, naan and chicken tikka beforehand. Call 914-337-0700 or visit the college’s website if you have any questions.

2. The Westchester County Planning Board Meeting will be held this morning at 8 a.m. Show up to Westchester Community College’s Gateway Building on 75 Grasslands Road, Valhalla, to let your voice be heard. This is democracy at its most pure – and its sleepiest (makes sure you’re adequately caffeinated before complaining about potholes or budget adjustments). Visit the County website for additional information.

3. Now that National Something-on-a-Stick Day has passed and you’re done indulging your sweet tooth with Starbucks Petites cake pops, it’s time to hit the health club. is currently offering a one-week free trial membership – an opportunity in which you can gain full use of all gym equipment and unlimited classes before deciding whether to . Contact Melissa Rosabella at (914) 358-9890 to register.

4. Start rummaging through your garage, basement and storage closets this evening for old clothes, computer equipment, sporting goods and musical instruments – this weekend’s Sports Swap is rapidly approaching! The Sports Swap is a giant sale with great prices. Swing by Heathcote School this Saturday at 10 a.m.-12 p.m. for great discounts and the chance to support PT Council programs, events, speakers and special events – 100 percent of proceeds are going towards the organization!

5. There are few things harder in life than losing a spouse. You don’t have to go through the grieving process alone. Jansen Hospice and Palliative Care in Tuckahoe will be holding an 8-week Spousal Loss Bereavement Support Group for adults who have lost a partner. Sessions are free, but registration is required. Today’s session runs from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. Call Didi Marcal, LMSW, Bereavement and Volunteer Coordinator, at (914) 961-2818, x355 for more details.
