UPDATED: Free Hot Showers, Charging Stations, Shelters Around Scarsdale

Out of power and in need of a hot shower, a place to plug in a cell phone, surf the web or get hot coffee? Read on.

For those thousands of residents in and around Scarsdale and Edgemont without electricity, hot water or heat, there are several options to help folks through this post-Hurricane Sandy time. With hotels across the state booked up, many are in need of some simple assistance. Here is the ongoing list of free resources.

Free Temporary Housing: For those without power who want to stay with a “house angel,” there are more than 20 families who have offered to let you stay with them. Please e mail me at pfeiner@greenburghny.com or call me on my cell: 914-438-1343.

Hot Showers and Charging Stations: All NY Sports Clubs are offering the public a chance to take a hot shower and use the locker rooms for free.

Hot Showers And Sleep Shelter: The 24/7 emergency shelter in White Plains has a locker room for hot showers. Folks can stay overnight, too. Ongoing through the power outage. 32 Manhattan Ave, White Plains.

Free Charging, Use of Internet Computers, Coffee, Heat: The Scarsdale Public Library is open until 9:00 p.m. Thursday, November 8 and from 9:00 a.m. - 9:00 p.m. Friday, November 9. The library notes: "Please stop by to charge your phones and other devices and warm up."

Free WiFi, Heat, Ice: The Spotlite Cafe in Scarsdale is offering a place to warm up and enjoy free WiFi and heat. Spotlite says: "Come on in, enjoy our lights, heat, free WIFI and parking. We have great, low-priced food and drink options. We'll have the TVs on, the music cranking and welcome everyone in the area to come on by. We'll even give you a bag of ice if you need one."

Free Temporary Senior Housing: The Hebrew Home at Riverdale announced that seniors affected by Hurricane Sandy can go to the assisted living facility for temporary, overnight shelter. Seniors will be able to have private rooms with full baths at no cost. Call Deborah Messina at the Hebrew Home at Riverdale at 1-800‐567‐3646.

Free Hot Showers and Charging Stations: The JCC of Mid-Westchester is offering hot showers and use of the locker rooms, heat and charging stations to the public. 999 Wilmot Road, Scarsdale.

Free Charging Stations: The Digital Arts Experience in White Plains is open to the community for internet, power, phone charging. 170 Hamilton Ave., Suite 100.

Free Charging Stations: Several CVS Pharmacies (including one on North Broadway, White Plains) and Target Stores are offering free phone/laptop charging at their stores.

Free Charging Station, Heat, Coffee: The Coldwell Banker office is available for charging devices. Located at 870 Scarsdale Ave., Scarsdale. Free coffee is available too.

Free Charging, Coffee, Internet: "Julia B. Fee Sotheby's International Realty Scarsdale office is up and running. They are open for anyone wanting wi-fi, a cup of coffee, heat, a bathroom or to even speak to an agent if they are looking for temporary housing," said Ali Greene, regional marketing manager.

Free Coffee and Charging Stations: Greenville Community Church has power for charging devices and hot coffee. Free to the public. Friday, November 2, from 9AM-2PM. 270 Ardsley Road (near Central Ave.) From the pastor, Edward:"We are blessed to have power at the church!  If you would like to stop by Friday and re-charge, please feel free to drop in, get warm and re-charge your devices while you stay and relax awhile. There is ample parking behind the building. Stop by the church office when you arrive and we'll direct you to available rooms. We'll have the coffee on also!"
