Get Out: A Scarsdale Patch Weekend Guide For February 15-17

Find something fun to do around Scarsdale this weekend.

Get a jump start on celebrating the weekend and enjoying your time away from work and school. Here are a few local events to help you and your family have some fun. TGIF!

Black History Month Celebration, Friday, February 15, 7 p.m. New Rochelle High School, 265 Clove Rd., New Rochelle, NY. Sponsored by the STRIVE Program of the New Rochelle Youth Bureau, and funded in part by the Westchester County Youth Bureau, the two-hour free program will include poetry, songs, dance and dramatic interpretation by adults and young people.

The Royal Hanneford Circus, Saturday, February 16, 10 a.m. Westchester County Center, 198 Central Ave., White Plains, NY. Tickets: $23.50. The Royal Hanneford Circus will make its’ 38th Annual visit to the Westchester County Center with an all new group of spectacular entertainers providing chills and thrills, fun and laughter for the entire family. The 2013 edition of the Royal Hanneford Circus will perform 9 Shows over President’s Day Weekend February 16th, 17th and 18th. Show times are 10AM, 2PM and 6PM each day. Tickets to the Royal Hanneford Circus are available at the Westchester County Center Box Office, 198 Central Park Avenue, White Plains. Box Office hours are 9AM – 5PM Monday – Friday and 9AM – 4PM Saturday. The County Center phone is (914) 995-4050. Tickets are also available from TicketMaster and ticketmaster.com. Service charges apply. Groups of 20 or more should call the County Center for information on the group discount.

Black History StoryWalk Opening, Sunday, February 17, 1 p.m. White Plains Public Library, 100 Martine Ave., White Plains, NY. Along this StoryWalk®, you will learn about Molly Williams, an African American cook for NYC's Fire Company 11 in 1818. She is thought to be America's first female firefighter. The StoryWalk® is based on the book entitled, “Molly, by Golly! The Legend of Molly Williams, America's First Female Firefighter" written by Dianne Ochiltree and illustrated by Kathleen Kemly. The StoryWalk® is open to families with children in grades 1 - 6 beginning Sunday, February 17 and continuing through Sunday, March 17, 2013. For more information, call 914-422-1476.

Scarsdale Adult School Teacher/Student Art Show, Saturday and Sunday, all day, Scarsdale Public Library. This weekend, take in the Scarsdale Adult School's 75th Anniversary Teacher/Student Art Show. For the entire month of February, artwork created by SAS instructors and their students will be on display at the Scarsdale Public Library.
