Great Escape: Meditation Sessions at Yoga Haven

The free sessions are held for 20 to 30 minutes twice a week at the Tuckahoe studio.

Sometimes, half an hour is all we need to clear our heads and restore our focus. But that time can be tough to find, especially with all the distractions of everyday life. A way to help: Free meditation at in Tuckahoe.

The studio, which has been in the community for the past 14 years, offers two 20 to 30 minute meditation sessions twice a week, with walk-in classes taking place Tuesdays from 5:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. and Fridays from 7 p.m. to 7:20 p.m.

“[We] always like to give back to the community and introduce things to people,” says owner and director Betsy Kase.

At the sessions, a teacher will demonstrate one or two meditation techniques so that “students can learn and then practice in the room with teachers and students,” says Kase.

She explains that teachers—who have made meditation an integral part of their own practice—may go over breathing techniques, help students find a relaxed pose or have music playing.

“It’s being present in the moment and learning to be present in that moment watching your thoughts,” she says.

Worried everyone in the class will be a seasoned professional? Kase assures there’s no need to have past experience and that everyone can ask questions.

“We’re in a very relaxed and comfortable environment,” she says.
