Greenburgh to Flush Fire Hydrants Beginning Next Week

Your water pressure may be a bit lower temporarily - and the water might be a tad discolored - beginning next week as the Greenburgh Water Department flushes area fire hydrants.

Residents in the Greenville section of Greenburgh and surrounding areas might experience lower than usual water pressure beginning Oct. 15 due to the Greenburgh Water Department’s plan to flush fire hydrants.


The process, which will run from Oct. 15 to Nov. 1, is necessary to keep the hydrants working properly and remove sediment build up in the distribution system, according to officials.


In addition to its effect on water pressure, flushing hydrants could also lead to the temporary discoloration of water, so residents are advised to check their water before doing any laundry or cooking.

Officials said such water is absolutely safe, but it could stain clothing, therefore residents should run the cold water for a few minutes in their faucets to make sure the discoloration has passed.
