Heavy Rains, Local Flooding Expected This Weekend

Monitor forecasts, the NWS says; be alert for flood warnings.

With heavy rains expected to set over the region overnight, the National Weather Service has issued a Flood Watch for Putnam, Rockland and Westchester counties.

The watch goes into effect at 12:01AM March 30 and is set through Sunday evening.

The steady rain will begin moving in by Saturday afternoon, with the heaviest precipitation expected to fall Saturday night into Sunday morning.

Rainfall of 2 to 3 inches, and locally up to 4 inches, could cause flooding of small streams, as well as significant urban and poor drainage flooding.

"Those living in areas prone to flooding should be prepared to take action should flooding develop," National Weather Service meteorologists said.
