Immigration Reform Advocates to Rally in White Plains Saturday

A group of immigration reform activists have scheduled a march and rally in White Plains Saturday as part of the National Day for Dignity and Respect.

Things begin at 1:30 p.m. in front of the White Plains Federal Courthouse, located 300 Quarropas St. The march will begin at the courthouse and end at the Michaelian Office Building, located 148 Martine Ave.

Organizations expected to take part in the local rally include: Empire Justice Center, HELP in Ossining, the Hispanic Resource Center, the Hudson Valley Community Coalition, Pace Community Law Practice, WESPAC and Westchester Hispanic Coalition.

“Every year, tens of thousands of families are torn apart because of our broken immigration system,” John Santos, vice president and Hudson Valley district leader for 32BJ SEIU, said in a statement. “The American people have pleaded with Congress for years to pass a reform plan that lives up to our values as a nation.”

More than 80 similar event are expected to take place across the country, culminating on Tuesday with a rally and free concert  at the National Mall in Washington, DC.
