Keeping The Kids Busy In Scarsdale

Looking for a little, mid-vacation-week relief? Try some of these local activities and events.

We are halfway through February vacation week and for those folks who are home with the kids, the ideas of how to keep the wee ones occupied may be dwindling.

Here are a few local activities and events to entertain kids of all ages:

Toddler Story Time at The Voracious Reader, Wednesday, February 20, 2:00 p.m. at The Voracious Reader, 1997 Palmer Ave, Larchmont. Bring the little ones, ages 18 months to three years, for an out-of-the-house story hour and let the store entertain them for a bit.

Claymation for African-American History Month, Wednesday, February 20, 6 p.m. White Plains Public Library, 100 Martine Ave., White Plains. In honor of Black History Month, the White Plains Library will host a four-part claymation workshop. Participants will tell the life story of three famous African Americans. Westchester artist Susan Ordahl will discuss the general principals of animation. For teens - high school. Snacks will be served.

, Wednesday, February 20- Friday, February 22, 1 p.m. Hudson River Museum, 511 Warburton St., Yonkers. Students on school break join educators and Jr. Docents for creative activities and Planetarium shows. Explore the Hudson River in the Hudson Riverama gallery. Discover the habitats of the animals that live there.

Wii Fun for Kids, Thursday, February 21, 4:30 p.m. White Plains Public Library, 100 Martine Ave., White Plains. Join in the Wii Fun games for kids! The competition takes place on the big screen in The Trove's Galaxy Hall. For boys and girls in grades 1 to 5.

Mother Goose Walkers, Thursday, February 21, 10:30 a.m. at the Scarsdale Public Library, 54 Olmsted Rd, Scarsdale. Bring the little ones, ages birth to 2 1/2 years, for stories, ryhmes and songs.

ACT Prep for April 2013 Tests - 8 sessions, Thursday, February 21, 7:30 p.m. at JCC of Mid-Westchester, 999 Wilmot Rd, Scarsdale. Keep the teens busy and learning with this ACT prep session.

Thursday & Friday, February 21-22, 10:30 a.m. at Weinberg Nature Center, 455 Mamaroneck Rd, Scarsdale. This daylong, vacation camp is for children ages 4-10 at the WNC. Children enjoy crafts, games, activities and more.

Ballroom/Latin Dance Program for Kids, begins Thursday, February 21, 7:30 p.m. at Total Fitness Center II, 4 Grayrock Rd, Scarsdale. Kids will learn to cha-cha, samba, jive and more.

February Break Play Camp, Friday, February 22, 1:30 p.m. at Great Play, 969 Central Park Ave, Scarsdale. Let the kiddos run out that energy for this 2-hour play session.
