Generations Gather At Robert Purdy Family Reunion

The Purdy Family gathered in White Plains for a family reunion this weekend.

Over 140 descendents of Robert (1823-1890) held a historic, family reunion on August 11. Purdy, a Scarsdale resident who was an escaped slave from Louisiana, had purchased farmland on Saxon Woods Road in 1858 in Scarsdale.

Miriam Levitt Flisser issued a proclamation at the event, declaring August 11, 2012, as Robert Purdy Day in the Village of Scarsdale.

Purdy, a farming entrepreneur, co-founded the A.M.E. Zion Church of Mamaroneck, N.Y.
