Scarsdale Public Library Announces Exciting Lineup of Adult Programming in May

Nancy's Book Discussion Group and New York Blood Center Blood Drive are special events for community residents.

The , as part of its ongoing mission to enhance the cultural and intellectual life of community residents, has announced upcoming events for adults: Nancy’s Book Discussion Group on May 16 and a blood drive on May 30.

“In order to better serve our busy constituents, we’ve decided to offer some programs twice,” said Scarsdale Public Library Executive Director Elizabeth Bremel. “This month...Nancy's Book Group discussion will have both daytime and evening sessions.”

On Wednesday, May 16 at 1:00 p.m. and 7:30 pm, Nancy's Book Discussion Group will talk about “Under the Banner of Heaven” by Jon Krakauer.

In 1984, Ron and Dan Lafferty murdered the wife and infant daughter of their younger brother Allen. The crimes were noteworthy not merely for their brutality but for the brothers' claim that they were acting on direct order from God. In Under the Banner of Heaven, Jon Krakauer tells the story of the killers and their crime but also explores the shadowy world of Mormon fundamentalism from which the two emerged.

Participants are encouraged to register in advance at the Library’s Circulation Desk.

On May 30 from 2:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., the New York Blood Center (NYBC) will host a Blood Drive at the Scarsdale Public Library. Established in 1964, NYBC is one of the largest community-based, non-profit blood collection and distribution organizations in the United States, providing nearly one million blood components to nearly 200 hospitals throughout New York City, New Jersey, Hudson Valley, Long Island and parts of Connecticut and Pennsylvania.
