Co-presidents of the booster committee, Penny Bauersfeld and with Gail Leone, among others, helped put together the award ceremony that honors student athletes and their coaches.

"Maroon & White supports all the interscholastic sports at Scarsdale High School, and we put on the awards at the end of each season to celebrate the certain seniors who are nominated by their coaches for special awards. We invite the parents to join in as well," said Penny Bauersfeld.

The Maroon & White committee is also active at sporting events throughout the year. Programs such as "Raider pride" supply snacks during games and events. "We also provide the gifts for the coaches and the athletic program," she added.

The Maroon & White sports journal was distributed to students and parents as they made their way towards the auditorium for the award ceremony.

The Maroon & White booster organization started 43 years ago, and this year marks the 21st publication of the journal, according to the publication.

The sports journal "gratefully acknowledges the many businesses and families who have contributed to and participated in our fundraising efforts, and cheered on our student athletes at their games, meets, matches, and sports awards dinners," the opening letter states, which was written by the co-presidents.

Michael Menna, the Athletic Director of SHS, initiated the ceremonies with opening remarks regarding the evening.

"Tonight is an opportunity to salute the athletes and thank the coaches," he said.

Presenters then announced the recipients of various awards such as: The Peppers Awards (which is presented by SHS's Assistant Principal Sue Peppers and her husband Jerry) which represents leadership spirit and academic excellence. The two recipients of this award were Rachel Whitney and Arthur Whyte.

The other awards included: the Nina F. Mooney memorial award, which went to Chelsea LoBue; the Nonie Knopp memorial award, which went to Colin Muldoon; and the Elizabeth Timberger Memorial Award, which went to Tyler Baker-Carr.

Individual accomplishments were acknowledged through these awards. Every year, coaches nominate specific seniors for the special awards.
