Viewfinder: Wayside Cottage

One of Scarsdale's historic treasures.

Wayside Cottage, which has been around since the early 1700s, has an extremely rich history.

The cottage started out as one room, but has since grown in size. It has gone through various transformations—from being a home to families and an inn to being the site of the old Scarsdale Library.

Now, Wayside Cottage is occupied by the Junior League of Central Westchester. Throughout the year, schools from surrounding communities can take their students to the cottage to get a tour of the old building and experience what it might have been like to live in the colonial era.
