Earlier this week we asked our readers to nominate a local resident or someone affiliated with Reading or North Reading for Patch's Person of the Year award.
After votes last year, our person of the year in 2011 was Connor Doherty. Doherty is a Lance Corporal in the United States Marine Corps and was deployed to Afghanistan from March to October last year.
Here are the nominations we received via email and social media for the Person of the Year for 2012:
- Coach Frank Carey, coach at NRHS
- Sarah Lentz, kindergarten teacher at the Barrows School in Reading
- Lindsay Barnes-Felix, who contributes to and supports the community
- Arline Lumb Garlington, who works and cares for the elderly
Please cast your vote for one of these people in the comments section below.
Honorable Mention: We received nominations for Victoria Soto, the 27-year-old who died trying to protect her students at Sandy Hook Elementary School during the Newtown shooting. Although she is more than worthy of this award, we are looking for someone who lives or works in Reading or North Reading.
