FitMD Comes To Scarsdale

Dr. Tara Brass is bringing her holistic approach to patients in Westchester.

Scarsdale native Dr. Tara Brass is bringing health and wellness to Westchester.

Brass, the FitMD, opened her new office in Scarsdale this month and is offering mental, physical and nutritional health services to those in need.

The psychiatrist, a Scarsdale High School alum, launched her new FitMD program–which uses a whole body approach to mental and physical health.

“Knowing how intimately the mind and body are connected, I saw the need to help coordinate, to combine mental health and physical health,” Brass told Patch in an interview.

Many folks struggle with trying to get fit but do not have the proper guidance or motivation, she said.

“I felt it was really important to have coordination between someone examining mental health needs and nutritional needs and physical needs,” Brass said.

Patients who are in the program spend two hours per week with a personal trainer and one session per week with Brass for psychotherapy, medical evaluation and coaching.

Brass uses personal training studios in Scarsdale and New Rochelle for the workout portion of the FitMD program, and patients have the option to have the trainers come to their home or office.

The psychiatrist, who has owned her own practice since 2005, has spent much of her career working in the field of eating disorders.

“As time went on, I developed my own personal interest in fitness and nutrition,” Brass said.

She said she found that patients were looking for fitness, diet and mental health care, but many times the plans were disjointed.

In her program, “all of the areas of mind and body are unified,” she said. Patients receive an individualized treatment program that is very personal, she said.

Brass talks to her patients’ personal trainers each week for updates and check-ins.

She decided to launch FitMD after seeing “people struggling all the time” with weight, health and emotional well-being, Brass said.

“I love to guide them with their journey,” she said. “That’s really what I love to do.”
