Go Greenberry, Go Now

Scarsdale's new frozen yogurt addition is sure to become an addiction.

There is a new eco-friendly place to get frozen yogurt in Scarsdale and it is, in a word, sensational. Go Greenberry, which opened August 15 on Garth Road, was the idea of Greg Sribhud, a frozen yogurt fanatic.

"It has been in my mind for two years, there are a lot of franchises out there that I was a big fan of and one day I thought to myself 'I should open my own store.' "

Sribhud had worked in the financial district, but after the market crash he changed direction and started pursuing his new business venture.

Go Greenberry is not your average frozen yogurt shop, it has a message and eco-friendly theme. "Basically we wanted to go green by using biodegradable cups, corn starch spoons, and recycled napkins." he said. "We're all about going green."

The store's design concept is shiny and polished with glossy walls and mirrors, all mixed with earthy tones and wooden elements. "I wanted to be modern and sleek. I came up with the idea of using wooden furniture. We also installed faux grass to give the shop a woodsy effect," said Sribhud.

The frozen yogurt itself is almost beyond words. The treat is custard-like, smooth and creamy, dense and flavorful. There are six flavors to choose from and the menu changes weekly. The flavors available when I visited included: plain tart, mango, lychee, coconut, chocolate and taro. Incidentally, I'd like you to know that the taro flavor was hands down the most amazing frozen yogurt flavor I have ever had. (You need to finish my article and then go try it. ) "It is fat free and we use organic yogurt in our mixture. The recipe is something we came up with ourselves," he said.

The toppings range from locally bought fresh fruit to candies, nuts, and an assortment of cereals.

The effort and passion he has put into the store is not only visible, but also inspiring. Everything from the shop's concept to the design details displays a tremendous amount of thought.

The concept for the illuminated soft serve machines was even influenced by the Chase ATM machines Sribhud had spotted on Central Park West.

"I designed the [wooden] sign and built it myself. I also built the lights myself. They  were originally plastic puzzles that I put together. I put the counter up myself and installed the additional lighting," he added. There is a sign on the left hand corner of the store that urges customers to support local businesses. "I try to use local businesses for everything. Eastchester Glass installed the mirrors and the glass walls. Nathans Printing supplied the vinyl lettering and business cards."

Sribhud's wife Yada works in the store, and like Greg, is extremely friendly and inviting.

Go Greenberry has upbeat music playing to add to the friendly vibe and overall ambiance. This welcome new shop not only serves great frozen yogurt, but it does so while spreading a highly relevant message.

Go Greenberry is set to open up an additional location in Dobbs Ferry in early September.

You can visit Go Greenberry at 58 Garth Road in Scarsdale.
