People Are Speaking Out About Local Decicco's Closing

Many people are not happy about the Chester Heights Decicco's closing. The store's owners officially closed down on Wednesday, deciding to sell to CVS because of declining sales.

A number of people who used to frequent the store believe the closure is leaving a large void in the communities surrounding the Chester Heights Decicco Food Market location. Here is what Patch readers are saying about the closure in our comments section:

Jenna Jumprightin I will miss the convenience of picking up a few items vs going to the larger supermarket for a short list of items. Frankly, I am surprised to learn that Joe C feels that his store isn't making as much money as the rest of the chain. Some of his prices are higher than larger food chains; and based on the zip codes of the other DeCicco's how can he expect to make as much money anyway with a smaller store. Anyway, I will miss more than anything the friendly sfaff in deli that I always chatted with, and of course the always pleasant and courteous Philip. Good luck everyone.

Fleetwood Mod Just what we need, another CVS. This will be the 3rd time in 10 years a useful supermarket where I live is replaced by an unnecessary CVS. Ugh.

Vicki I echo the aforementioned comments! I feel very bad for all the people living in and around Chester Heights. We do not need another CVS. What about those who do not drive and walked here to shop? Not happy with the DeCicco's decision to close this supermarket. Albeit, their prices were more expensive, but it was terrific being able to shop with friends every week and buy quality meats and produce. Have gone to C town for over 20 years and will miss them and all their staff - the deli department, the produce and meat staff, and all their managers, and especially Phillip who each day greeted you with a smile and kindness. - Vicki Campolong.

George R. Frost If you love DeCicco's, just take a short drive down the road into Pelham and hit their location on 5th Ave. That store is much larger and sells the best and freshest of everything.

Mary My Mother had been going to DeCicco's for 27 years, almost every day. I too for many years. They say it is due to not enough revenue. I find that hard to believe. I always see the parking lot nearly full. Best store for freshness, meat and customer service. S&S and A&P can't compare. Neither can Shop Rite, since there is not one nearby. The Yonkers one is, in my opinion, the worst shopping experience one could have. Oh well, inevitable I suppose. And it gets worse, CVS is expected to replace it, yuck. DeCicco's corporate should make it work! They are being aggressive with rebranding and opening many stores.
