Scarsdale Entrepreneur a Beacon for NYC's Silicon Alley

People are taking notice of Scarsdale's own Jon Oringer. The 1992 Scarsdale High graduate founded Shutterstock back in 2003. Now that his company has gone public, the Scarsdale native is Silicon Alley's first billionaire. Silicon Alley is the nickname for an area with a concentration of new media companies in New York City.

Oringer's success is showing many that New York City's Silicon Alley has what it takes to compete with Silicon Valley. The 39-year-old's recognition comes as Mayor Bloomberg pushes to invigorate Manhattan's tech sector.

Last year, Oringer was named as New York's technology entrepreneur of the year by Ernst & Young. And this year, he was recognized as one of Crain New York Businesses' 40 under 40.
