Setsuko Bringing Love of Hair Styling To Scarsdale

Setsuko Hosomi, owner of Setsuko at Jean Claude, brings her NYC background to Scarsdale.

Setsuko Hosomi started styling hair when she was nine-years-old.

Growing up in Japan, the Scarsdale business owner got a taste of hairdressing while practicing on her sister.

"We had a cousin with a barbershop," the 52-year-old owner of said.

The young sisters hated having their hair cut at the barbershop, so they decided to cut their own hair.

Hosomi began her beauty career in Tokyo styling hair after she graduated from high school until she was 23. She then packed up and moved to New York City. She began her career at a NYC salon and started freelancing as a hair and makeup artist, doing fashion shows and other events.

The salon owner and mother of two has lived in Westchester for the past two decades, and worked in Westchester for the past 15 years.

Seven years ago, she started to work for Jean Claude Salon in Scarsdale. When Claude retired five years ago, Hosomi took over the business.

The Palmer Avenue shop has a small staff of seven and cuts the hair of children and adults.

The salon offers a variety of services including organic hair color, KeraGreen conditioning, treatments, air-brushed makeup applications and manicures.
