Our Time, an award-winning non-profit that has been helping kids who stutter for over a decade, will launch a local weekly program at Applause Westchester in October 2013. Young people who stutter, ages 8-18, are invited to enroll (www.ourtimestutter.org).
It is estimated that over 70 million people in the world stutter, including 5% of a children. Kids who stutter often struggle not only with speech, but also with bullying, social isolation, and feelings of shame and low self-esteem.
Our Time provides cutting-edge programs that help young people manage not only the physical but also the social and emotional impacts of stuttering. At Our Time, kids join a community of unconditional acceptance where they have as much time as needed to share their valuable voices. Participants gain priceless CONFIDENCE, COMMUNICATION SKILLS, and a sense of COMMUNITY with peers and encouraging adult mentors.
