CIC presents at JCC of Scarsdale

Greenwich-based College Interview Counselors (CIC) has been invited by the JCC of Scarsdale to hold a workshop on the specific interview aspect of the college admissions process. Although the JCC holds other college preparatory seminars, this will be the first time that the JCC is offering training specifically for the admissions interview.  This workshop, held on the mornings of October 6 and 20 from 11 -12:30 a.m. is open to the public.  If interested, please contact Lisa Itkowitz at  itzkowitzl@jccmw.org.

The JCC is not the first organization to offer this interview-specific workshop.  During this past summer’s Greenwich High School

“ College Application Workshop,” former Guidance Counselor and workshop leader Sue Batcheller, included CIC in her curriculum.  Ms. Batcheller remarked,

“Kyrie Stillman and her partner, Peggy Marx, of College Interview Counselors ( CIC), gave a terrific presentation about the importance of the college interview to my students in Greenwich High School's "College Workshop" summer school class. CIC’s role play of both a poor and very good interview helped my students understand exactly what components are needed to give a successful interview--everything from appropriate body language to all of the topics the students must be ready to discuss during the interview.

My students came away from the workshop with the information needed to prepare an excellent college interview.”

The JCC is holding this new workshop in response to the ever-escalating competitiveness of the college admissions process.   Academic Director, Lisa Itzkowitz, is aware that contrary to the common myth that insists that college admissions interviews are simply a formality, the interview can make the difference in a student’s chances for admission to the school of his/her choice.   In fact, interviews for admission are offered and encouraged at:

95% of the top 75 colleges

88% of the top 25 universities

College Rankings:  U.S. News and World Report 2013; admission interview statistics per college websites

Quotes from Admission websites reveal:

“  ………we strongly recommend a personal interview.  Without one, some students may be at a disadvantage at the time of Admissions selection.”

“ Treat this as a job interview, as it is an important piece of our holistic review.”

“ In fact, last year, of eligible applicants, we admitted 10.8% of those who had an interview but only 1% of those who chose not to interview."

College Interview Counselors (CIC) is unique in its ability to offer deep experience and specific focus on the interview process.   CIC was founded by two veteran interviewers who chaired a top college interview committee for more than 25 years of collective service.    During that time they interviewed hundreds of applicants and read even a greater number of write ups ( interviewers’ assessments)  from their alumni staff.  Based on expert experience, they have analyzed the keys to a successful interview and are able to prepare students on how to perform well during their one shot deal – their one time to shine during the interviews of the colleges of their choice.

A recent client whose son obtained personal training from CIC states, “ Hello Peggy and Kyrie:  Thanks so much for meeting with my son and working on his interview skills.   You helped him get more comfortable telling his best stories and to see the process from the college admissions perspective as well as his own.  Your gentle  guidance have made him more confident about his ability to impress the colleges  he wants to attend.  I believe he is ready to wow them on the interview!  Thanks for everything!”

CIC offers a variety of packages for training applicants on interview skills.  The tools CIC’s applicants come away with are used throughout their young careers for college applications as well as job and career interviews.  CIC also offers workshops and seminars in group settings for qualified organizations.

Contact information for CIC can be found at www.collegeinterviewcounselors.com.  The directors can also be reached at: Kyrie@collegeinterviewcounselors.com or Peggy@collegeinterviewcounselors.com or at 203 661 4214.
