Avoid The Winter Blues Post-Divorce

Suggestions on how to meet people and make new friends after divorce and a move.

I am getting divorced and moving. I work 24/7 and don’t have young children. How do I meet new people?

Religious settings, men’s and women’s clubs, as well as groups specific to your hobbies are a traditional place to meet new people. Often those people have spouses, children and established local relationships. In a word, they are not necessarily looking for new friends.

Just like people routinely find dates on the Internet, there are now web sites to find platonic relationships and people with whom to share common interests and activities. And their mission is to introduce people to one another, which eliminates the embarrassment factor when trying to establish yourself in a new community.

GirlfirendCircles.com and SocialJane.com are established sites and are exclusively for women. CompanionTree.com is for both men and women.

If this is happening in a community like Scarsdale, then as a taxpayer I am irritated. Where are allRead More the taxes going if teachers are paying for their own classroom supplies? There has to be some degree of accountability regarding our tax dollars. We are the highest-taxed county in the nation and we can't afford notebooks and post-it notes? As a community member, I am not going to "lend a hand." I already do that with my tax dollars.
