E-motion: Sweet Baby Love

I reached my hand out first, he accepted it, and then he held on.  And kept holding on.  My little friend turns two today.  This little guy, who knows me mostly through video chat sessions on the computer, held on.  He kept his chubby sweet little hand entwined with my hand the whole ride home from the station.  35 minutes is a long time for an almost two year old to sit still, much less comfortably hold someone’s hand, especially someone they last saw a year ago!  That’s half a lifetime ago when you are two!

He kept looking at me though, checking me out, wanting to confirm that this hand holding was a good idea.  And, I must have passed his muster, because he held on.   I even got a few darting smiles.

His sweet baby love reminds me how good it is to trust.  And, how good it is to love.  And, how good it is to show someone love in tangible ways.  Like holding hands for 35 minutes.   It reminds prioritize the sweet simple things of life.  The precious things.   Prioritize them especially when the complications of adult life start demanding too much attention.

I’m thinking now of that hand holding from last week and I've decided to not forget it.  I want to let that memory, it’s a pretty tangible one for me still, inspire me for a good long time.  Inspire me to celebrate simple expressions of love this summer.  Maybe it can inspire you too.  Sweet baby love, it’s a good thing.  And, happy second birthday, my little friend!
