Fireworks Display Awes the Crowd at Scarsdale Pool

Fireworks kicked off the 4th of July weekend at the Scarsdale Municipal Pool Friday evening.

The Scarsdale Municipal Pool was a celebratory place Friday night as the first of what will be several fireworks displays here filled the Westchester night sky.

Families came prepared with towels, blankets, and folding chairs to sit and enjoy the show poolside.

It was indeed a magical night as children and parents alike wielded the glowing toy swords - sold at the event in lieu of the glow-sticks & glow-necklaces of previous years - while waiting in anticipation of the upcoming light show.

The fireworks erupted in a brilliant performance at 9:15 p.m., launching right from the golf course opposite the Pool.

It was an all-encompassing recital of loud bursts and bright flashes that lit up the dark sky.  This smoky show was a true reminder of the hard-won battles fought for American independence.

For a nominal admission fee of $2, the light show dazzled and had every head in the crowd hypnotically fixed upwards to the sky - waiting in anticipation for the next big bang, pop or fizzle to rumble through the night and gently cascade down.

As the show wound down, the display ended in a grand finale that hushed the crowd into awe-stricken silence for several thunder-cracking minutes.

And for the numerous children that attended the event - for many this was their first fireworks show - this will truly be an  Independence Day celebration to remember.

If you didn't get a chance to see the fireworks show this year, keep in mind that you don't have to go far to see a quality fireworks show in Westchester. Stay tuned to the Patch for listings of other fireworks shows in the area.
