why now instead of on Tuesday morning ???
Portia Torte November 3, 2012 at 04:08 pm
These trucks may really be for Bedford. ConEd is calling its Town of Bedford service area saying power back on by Sunday, November 4 @ 11:00 pm.

O & R got a big rate increase in July based on their promise to respond more quickly to storm outages. They said two days before this storm that they were ready and that they had contract deals in place for out of state crews to come in immediately. Where were they all week ???
stephany November 3, 2012 at 04:26 pm
they were formatting their request, errrr demand, for the next rate increase they will get with no problem as usual

Palisade Avenue in Dobbs Ferry estimate 11/9/12. Why? Police won't give out any information either. That is unacceptable.
A November 3, 2012 at 05:43 pm
you think 11/9 is unacceptable. I have been told 11/11 at 11:30pm is when I am to get my power back. My other half of the street has power the older half but mine no! 11/11 at 11:30 two freaking weeks!!! that's UNACCEPTABLE!

Could be worse. PSE&G sent a crews back to Alabama cause they were non union.
Nummy November 3, 2012 at 05:52 pm

Nummy November 3, 2012 at 06:05 pm

Lol. I was just informed that places in Point Pleasant nj have power and we are still in the dark in Hartsdale.
The people directly behind us have power and our traffic light on our power line is on central avenue and is still out. Obviously public safety is not a concern and as long as we can fend for ourselves and we aren't looting it isn't that bi of a deal. Con Edison should have Westchester removed from its market.
JuicyJ November 3, 2012 at 07:13 pm
This has been the largest storm the area has seen in centuries. Think about all the people in Africa who have never seen power in their lives, and your jimmies are rustled because you have to go without for 2 weeks.

Get off patch and organize some political action if you are dissatisfied with the way your community and utility company operates. Talk is cheap.
stephany November 3, 2012 at 07:34 pm
where did i say i was dissatisfied or does it matter to you jo and get back to work repairing the lines
X November 3, 2012 at 08:58 pm
Sandra, good question!
O&R really failed when they promised to do better after the horrible storm in October 2011.
stephany November 3, 2012 at 09:33 pm
what do they know. only what someone tells them. nobody told them anything, why would they. amazing you can get a robo call if a dog is missing for 1hr or someone wants your vote yet nothing for this disaster [no communication]. the other disaster was Sandy and the damage it brought. this is very typical behavior. you should not be surprised

O & R has private contracts in Bergen County and has MANY crews and trucks working to repair service in towns like Old Tappan, Norwood, Northvale etc - so when our elected officials complain about the lack of response from O & R - feel free to remind them about that

So glad I left the rivertowns. Never experienced a more selfish bunch of people with an unlimited sense of entitlement. People are working double shift risking thier lives to get power on - tell, me, how would you have done it better? So important that the entertainment lawyers of Hastings and the rela estate speculators of Irvington get back to their critical work. You call yourselves liberal until it comes to something that affects you personally and then suddenly you're all Ayn Rand - and know everything about how to run a railroad or a utility company or a fire department.

From: Outraged Residents in Southeast (Brewster), NY
In the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, the residents of Foggintown Road, Drovers Lane, Acorn Road and the surrounding area, approximately 164 homes, are still without power. The local power company, New York State Electric & Gas (NYSEG) had informed us we would be up and running by 11:30 p.m. tonight. However, due to the scheduling of our local football playoff game, the repairs on our power lines have been postponed until approximately 11:00 p.m. Sunday so that the roads could be opened to access the football field at Brewster High School today. This means 164 families will again be cold; tonight’s temperature plummeting down to 35 degrees. NYSEG was instructed by the Brewster school district to reopen these roads for today, delaying repairs. In comparison, the NYC Marathon has been cancelled for the first time in 40 years out of compassion for the people affected by the hurricane. But for some unknown reason, the Brewster Bears must go on while we stay in the dark. Most of us have always been supporters of the local sports teams, however, we are appalled by this decision. When we as residents tried to contact Senator Greg Ball’s office, we were told he had nothing to do with it nor would he do anything about it, showing no compassion or concern for constituents. This e-mail is being distributed to local newspapers and radio stations.
Hastings Now But A Hollow Concept November 4, 2012 at 11:15 am
In Hastings' case, they've made it very clear, they know nothing about running a village. They are there to dream and further insulate themselves, driven by deep rooted fears and existing in the most disturbing levels of denial. The town no longer has anything in common with what drew these folks and what in the past made it unique. Diversity and a true sense of community. Hastings talks a lot. Of being "green," this while hand holding B.P., the planet's pariah, proudly weaving them into the fabric of the town. Hastings talks a lot. Of diversity, while prohibitive taxes continue to drive anything that resembles it out of the village. Hastings talks a lot, about art, the town's ultimate delusion. The closest Hastings has come to anything approaching art in the last twenty years were a rash of recent porta potty burnings. The real art and artists of Hastings were always it's people. There is no real art in Hastings, for it's people are now a white washed generic collection of the faceless, who are left to talk of the qualities of a "village", qualities which their inauthenticity, entitlement and vast disconnect, ensure they will never experience. The majority live vicariously, and only when it suits them, through the few real souls left. If it weren't for the fireman, cops, D.P.W., and the few remaining merchants, it would truly be "Stepford on the Hudson." I'll give them one thing, they have the perfect face and character for this, currently seated in the Mayoral chair.

Strong. Great Post!! I can't get gas after driving around 4-5 am this morning, but what can you do. Just happy I can take my bike to get groceries and I would get them for others who cant get out due to age, illness, etc. Ann Rand - LMAO.

There is a huge tree held up only by wires hanging over heavily trafficked Route 35 near the filtration plant. Where do we report such a safety menace? It is truly a disaster waiting to happen.

Is there any way to find out if someone is O.K.? I have a childhood friend in Rye Brook with whom I haven't been able to get in touch.
