Long Week Of No Power Ahead For Scarsdale, Edgemont

Not promising news for folks without power around the area.

What a miserable, post-Hurricane Sandy week for the more than 6,000 folks around Scarsdale and Edgemont still without power Friday.

As of 2:00 p.m. today (Friday, November 2,) the thousands in Edgemont and Scarsdale area have a restoration estimate at 12:00 p.m. on November 9.

Most lost power on Monday, October 29 during Hurricane Sandy. November 9 would make a full, 11 days without electricity.

In the Village of Scarsdale, more than 4,000 residents do not have power. In Greenville, Edgemont and the Scarsdale zip code, that is a total of 6,000-plus waiting to have the lights turned back on. In Greenburgh, there are 9,500 without power.

The Village of Scarsdale told residents yesterday to expect the power to be out for seven to 10 days, with only one Con Ed crew working in the Village.

Con Edison customers without power should be sure to report the outage to the utility company. Call Con Edison at 1-800-75-CONED or report the outage online at http://www.coned.com/sm/

According to the Village of Scarsdale, calling to report the outage will register the complaint in the Con Ed database. Even if a neighbor already called, folks must report each individual outage to register it in the system.

If this is happening in a community like Scarsdale, then as a taxpayer I am irritated. Where are allRead More the taxes going if teachers are paying for their own classroom supplies? There has to be some degree of accountability regarding our tax dollars. We are the highest-taxed county in the nation and we can't afford notebooks and post-it notes? As a community member, I am not going to "lend a hand." I already do that with my tax dollars.
