Scarsdale's Lucci to Star in Controversial New Show

Scarsdale native and soap opera superstar Susan Lucci's first episode of her new show "Devious Maids" has finally aired. The program premiered last night on the Lifetime television network.

The series, which is in the vein of "Desperate Housewives," follows the adventures of four maids and their rich boss.

"There is a lot of intrigue. The show is so funny. There are scenes that are absolutely hilarious," Lucci told USA Today. "There is also, you know, the intrigue and murder, mayhem, little surprises and sexy... All the good stuff."

Lucci, who was born in Scarsdale, hopes that her "All My Children" fans watch her show. The program was created by "Desperate Housewives'" Marc Cherry. It's based on the Mexican series "They Are the Joy of Home."

Even though the show just aired last night, it is already being criticized for it's portrayal of Latina domestic help.

Lucci, who is part of a long list of superstars from Scarsdale, which include Rob Reiner, Yoko Ono, Liza Minnelli and Judy Garland, is defending her new show.

“No one from this show, no character on this show is defined, whether they are the devious maids or the household owners,” Lucci told The Canadian Press. “You come away thinking that no one is defined simply by what they do or how large or small their bank account is.”
