Scarsdale: Walking the High Line Tour

Place: Scarsdale Adult School

Description: Meet up with other village residents and head to Manhattan, where you'll stroll the public park built on an abandoned three-mile-long elevated rail structure that runs from Gansevoort Street to 34th Street on Manhattan's West Side.

White Plains:

Place: White Plains Performing Arts Center, 11 City Place, White Plains

When: Friday, May 10, 8 pm

Description: Hair tells the story of the "tribe," a group of politically active, long haired hippies of the "Age of Aquarius" living a bohemian life in New York City and fighting against conscription into the Vietnam War.

Bronxville: Relay for Life

Place: Concordia College, 171 White Plains Rd, Bronxville, NY

When: Saturday, May 11, 2013, 6:00 pm

Description: The 5th Annual Relay for Life of Eastchester will take place on Saturday, May 11 at Concordia College. The opening ceremony and first lap will start at 6 p.m., with the event ending the following day, Sunday, May 12 at 6 a.m.

Harrison: “Where To?" Paintings and Pastels by Marion Schneider

Place: Harrison Public Library

When: 2-4 p.m. May 11

Description: The artist's reception is Saturday for this exhibit, presented by the Harrison Council for the Arts and on view May 5-31. As an Art Director who was influential in the Graphic Design and Advertising world for over 35 years, Marion’s strong design background has had a tremendous influence on her painting. It has formed a basic structure and way of seeing the world that dominates her work with bold design, a strong passion for color and unique space arrangement. Her intense love of color, pattern, edge playfulness, and extreme light and shadow are strong themes that are always evident in her paintings.

Hastings: 71st Regiment Memorial Service

Place: Mount Hope Cemetery, Saw Mill River Road, Hastings-on-Hudson

When: Saturday, May 11, 2013, 11 a.m.

Description: Join local veterans and their families and local officials—including New York State Sen. Andrea Stewart-Cousins,  New York State Assemblyman Tom Abinanti, Westchester County Legislator Mary Jane Shimsky and GreenburghTown Supervisor Paul Feiner—for the memorial service.

This year's them focuses on the 150th anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg, as the 71st was involved in that engagement and lost a number of its members during the three days of battle.

Rivertowns: Riverkeeper Sweep

Place: Various locations including Tarrytown's RiverWalk Park and Sleepy Hollow's Kingsland Point Park

When: Saturday, May 11 from 8 to 11 a.m. (Kingsland) or 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. (RiverWalk).

Description: As part of Riverkeeper's annual "Sweep" clean up events, the villages of Tarrytown and Sleepy Hollow are holding their own work days. Preregistering with Riverkeeper (www.riverkeeper.org) makes you eligible for a free beer and raffle.
