6 CANTORS TO GIVE "BIMAH TO BROADWAY" CONCERT SATURDAY, OCT. 26; HERSHAFT FUND SPONSORS EVENT TO BENEFIT WJCS' "PARTNERS IN CARING"

SCARSDALE, NY, October 15, 2013 – Scarsdale Synagogue Temples Tremont and Emanuel will sponsor a special benefit concert, featuring six noted cantors performing an assortment of Broadway show music and selected liturgical melodies. The event, sponsored by the Synagogue’s Hershaft Music Fund, will take place at 7:30PM, Saturday evening, October 26th at Scarsdale Synagogue, 2 Ogden Road, in Scarsdale.

 

Tickets are $18 in advance and $23 at the door, with proceeds going to the WestchesterJewish Community Services’ Partners in Caring initiative, through which social workers provide a range of support groups, including counseling and educational programs to meet the needs of congregants, members and staff at Westchester’s synagogues and Jewish community centers. Gerald Cohen, Cantor at Shaarei Tikvah, Scarsdale, NY

Leigh Korn, Cantor at Temple Isaiah, Lafayette, CA

Benjie Ellen Schiller, Cantor at Bet Am Shalom, White Plains, NY

Amanda Kleinman, Cantorial Intern at Westchester Reform Temple, Scarsdale, NY

Rachel Harrison Rhodes, Cantorial Intern at Bet Am Shalom, White Plains, NY

Musical accompaniment will be provided by Eric Trudel, an international concert pianist and recording artist.

 

Speaking for the six cantors, Chanin Becker said: “We all look forward to singing an exciting and varied group of melodies, with lots of old favorites and some new music – both secular and liturgical – that we hope will lift spirits and put a song in the hearts of everyone who attends. It should be a fun and very worthwhile evening, especially because it will alsobenefit people in the Westchester community who need help in coping with the challenges of our increasingly complex society.”
