Author Jacob Appel to Speak at Scarsdale Library

Jacob Appel, an author,
bioethicist, physician, lawyer and social critic, who grew up in Scarsdale,
will read from and discuss his latest work at the Scarsdale Public Library on Wednesday,
January 15, at 7:30 pm.

            “The
Biology of Luck” focuses on Starshine Hart who is about to go on somebody else’s perfect
date. At twenty-nine, Starshine still refuses to hold a job which requires her
to wear shoes and leads a hand-to-mouth existence. Her lovers—and there are
many—include one of the last underground members of the Weathermen and the
dilettante heir to a lawn chair magnate.
The story revolves around a date with a man who has spent two years
preparing for it.  The story blends the techniques of
post-modernism with a traditional love story to create a provocative pilgrimage
through the underbelly of New York City.
