Scarsdale War Hero Honored by DAR

From the Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution:

As the Town of Eastchester launches its 350th Anniversary Celebration in 2014 - culminating in a May 30 Gala at Siwanoy Country Club in Bronxville - local politicians joined with the Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) in laying a wreath to honor a more recent historic event, The American Revolution.

A century after a coalition of DAR Chapters and Members of the Order of the Cincinnati honored Scarsdale resident and American Revolutionary War hero, Captain Samuel Crawford, by erecting a tablet on the site where he was buried following a deadly skirmish with British soldiers on November 18, 1777, Village of Tuckahoe Mayor, Steve Ecklond, Eastchester Town Supervisor, Anthony J. Colavita, Jr., and Anne Hutchinson-Bronxville Chapter NSDAR Member, Virginia K. Hefti - who thrice served as WP Chapter Regent - joined the White Plains Chapter NSDAR in rededicating the monument which still stands at the intersection of Post Road and Winter Hill Road in Tuckahoe.

Among his many civic and historic contributions, Captain Samuel Crawford, who served as Scarsdale Committeeman and Deputy from Westchester County to the Provincial Congress, has been credited with seconding the motion to approve The Declaration of Independence in 1776.
