Scarsdale Native Opens Physique 57 Location in the Village

For Jennifer Vaughan Maanavi, the CEO and co-founder of the upscale fitness studio chain Physique 57, setting up a new pop-up location in Scarsdale was a relatively easy decision.

“The clientele mirrors that of our New York City facility,” she said, adding that many go back and forth from the Scarsdale location at 1142 Wilmot Road to the Manhattan site.

Additionally, Maanavi grew up in Scarsdale - Class of 1989 from Scarsdale High - so launching a new site in the village is a homecoming. Physique 57 also has locations in Los Angeles, the Hamptons and Dubai.

“The people of Scarsdale are wonderful,” she said. “They are smart and friendly, and I have such great memories of growing up here.”

Physique 57 in Scarsdale has been open for less than a month, but Maanavi said the response to the location has been “fantastic, better than we expected, word of mouth has been tremendous.” The studio focuses on efficient, full body exercise workouts that can be achieved in an hour. Every muscle group receives attention, as does the participant’s cardiovascular system. Additionally, the workout also includes thorough stretching routines.

“The goal is to change the body and a person’s level of confidence and self esteem,” said Maanavi, adding that participants typically start seeing results in eight workouts.

Costs for the sessions average about $32 per class, and the studio sells five, 10 and 20-class packages. Currently, the Scarsdale classes are held in the morning, but by January the studio will add afternoon and evening sessions.

In addition to the classes at their locations, Physique 57 also offers online sessions that take participants through similar paces. The online sessions are popular with people who do not have a location near them, but also with people who can’t make it to a class near them, or when they are traveling.

“The online classes allow people to stay consistent,” said Maanavi. “They provide an opportunity for people to at least do a half an hour at home or on the road, which can keep you in the game, so to speak.”

The Wilmot Road location is temporary, but Maanavi said she expects to open a permanent location in Scarsdale next year. The company is also looking to expand in California and the Middle East in the near future.
