President Obama And Democrats Win In Westchester County

President Barach Obama and Westchester Democrats win.

President Obama won re-election last night and will continue to move our country in the direction of improving the economy and a pro-choice advocate for women and all minority groups.

In Congress, Senator Kirsten Gillibrand won re-election along with Congressman Eliot Engel, Congresswoman Nita Lowey and Sean Patrick Maloney beat Nan Hayworth. They will support President Obama and his programs.

On the state level, State Senator Andrea Stewart-Cousins and Assemblywoman Amy Paulin won uncontested elections. Assemblyman George Latimer won a State Senate seat over Bob Cohen. In addition, David Buchwalter of White Plains beat incumbant Robert Castelli for the Assembly seat.

Steve Otis is the new Assemblyman from Mamaroneck. Shelley Mayer, Sandy Galef, Tom Abinanti and Gary Pretow also won re-election to the Assembly.  In the State Senate, David Carlucci, Ruth Hasssell-Thompson and Jeff Klein won re-election.

It is possible that statewide Democrats picked up two additional seats in the State Senate despite the gerrymandering done by the Republican Party after they backed out of their pledge to former Mayor Ed Koch to have the districts drawn by a non-partisan group.

David Zuckerman will become our new County Court Judge in Westchester and for Supreme Court Justice Gerald Loehr, Maria Rosa and Sandra Sciortino were leading their Republican opponents in the 9th Judicial District.

On the national level, Democrats may have picked up ten seats in the House of Representative but it was not enough to take control. In the Senate it looks like Democrats picked up two additional seats to expand their control.

If this is happening in a community like Scarsdale, then as a taxpayer I am irritated. Where are allRead More the taxes going if teachers are paying for their own classroom supplies? There has to be some degree of accountability regarding our tax dollars. We are the highest-taxed county in the nation and we can't afford notebooks and post-it notes? As a community member, I am not going to "lend a hand." I already do that with my tax dollars.
